CYLA Department of Landscape Architecture 20th Anniversary Promotional Video
Reflections grows from a one-way perspective into a dialogue.
It is one hand reaching for another.
It opens up the reading of landscape architecture across multiple dimensions.
Listening to the voice of the mountains, watching the tides of the sea, experiencing rhythms drawn from everyday life,
and sensing the messages carried by nature. From indoors to outdoors,
from the campus to the field, teachers and students accompany each other, learning and moving together, hand in hand, dancing through unexpected surprises.
Those who can walk to the end were fellow travelers from the very beginning.

NUTRING LANDSCAPE FUTURIST
Inventory signifies a sudden opening of freedom at a specific moment.
Sorting often unfolds against the current, revealing underlying structures.
Resilience does not follow a preset scale—it constructs its own.
Landscape architecture is like an earnest learner of language,
curious about the stories the land tells,
fond of interacting with strangers,
immersed in sorting through the dimensions of a place,
while blurring overly rigid or predetermined answers.
Landscape architecture is like a social anthropologist waiting for nature to mature,
translating the complexities of landscapes,
defending the local voice,
yet remaining skeptical of the logics driven by machinery, speed, and economics.
Landscape architecture is like a self-guided poet on a journey,
wandering through and stretching the boundaries of space and perception.
Carrying questions and awareness drawn from life,
waiting for these questions to be answered—or to quietly reflect once more.
Amid the new waves of transformation in landscape architecture,
the capture and imagination of cultural trajectories
are being nourished anew.
20th Anniversary Logo Design
The main visual for the 20th anniversary of the CYLA Department of Landscape Architecture at Chung Yuan aims to convey the professional values that the department emphasizes: diversified development, cross-disciplinary integration, and attentiveness to user needs.
The main visual is constructed based on a hexagonal structure forming the letters “CYLA”. The spaced lines within the letters express the department’s educational philosophy of encouraging diversity and inclusiveness. The varying thickness of each letter’s lines symbolizes the CYLA community’s capacity to interpret environmental and user feedback and to reflect these insights in design.
The anniversary numerals are presented in earth-tone colors, representing the department’s long-standing care for the land since its founding and its ongoing commitment to nurturing future practitioners in the field of landscape architecture.
Event Records
Every inch of land beneath the tree holds our memories—the playful moments under the sunlight, the lessons learned in the shadows—these are the purest times of our lives.
As the years pass and we gradually go our separate ways, returning to the tree always brings back that familiar warmth, like coming home. It gives us the courage to pursue our dreams in every moment of life.
We are grateful for your presence, making this anniversary celebration both heartwarming and moving.
(Special thanks to alumnus Lin Yu-Chih for assisting with photography for this event.)
Fundraising Plan
Since its founding by Professor Yu in 2004, CYLA at Chung Yuan (formerly the Department of Landscape Architecture) has entered its 20th year. Under the leadership of successive department chairs and the joint efforts of all faculty and students, the department has established a strong reputation and notable achievements in the field of landscape architecture. We hope to continue playing a “pioneer” role—leading forward-thinking ideas, expanding professional horizons, and fulfilling our social responsibilities.
After the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, teaching support and industry-academia research initiatives have gradually returned to normal. However, due to changes in the external environment and the challenges of a declining birth rate, the department faces significant operational pressures. It is necessary to progressively update both physical facilities and software resources to support faculty teaching and student learning, thereby strengthening CYLA’s competitiveness among environmental planning and design programs.
The department is currently planning a series of updates and constructions, including the LaBar and department graphic space, the front wooden platform of the department building, student studios on the second and third floors, professional review classrooms, and digital landscape course equipment. Given the extremely limited funding available from the university, these projects face financial shortfalls. We therefore seek the support of alumni and the broader community to realize our development vision.
CYLA at Chung Yuan sincerely hopes for the generous support of alumni and the community. Every contribution, big or small, flows into a sustainable source of nourishment for our department. The department has established the Department of Landscape Architecture Development Fund, through which you can make a one-time donation or set up recurring small payments via credit card. Every donation will be deeply appreciated and carefully managed to benefit student learning and promote the sustainable development of the department.
Your participation and support, like small streams converging into a mighty river, will help CYLA cultivate future generations of landscape architecture talent.
Please select the designated purpose of your donation「中原大學地景建築學系發展基金」.
